President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that to strengthen the services of the Thalassemia Center, its administrative management and service hours will be changed, and Maldivian Blood Services (MBS) will be transferred under the Male' Group of Hospitals very soon.
The President said this while speaking on the fifth episode of the "Rayyithunaa Eku" podcast series, which he conducts to share information with the public as closely as possible, listen to people's opinions and concerns, and answer public questions.
In this episode of the podcast, highlighting the importance of running the Thalassemia Center as a hospital, the President said that within the next two weeks at most, MBS will be taken over by the Male' Group of Hospitals. He also said this change will bring many benefits. The President noted that with this change, the various issues and difficulties of thalassemia children will be resolved with the help of specialist doctors. He also said that with this change, services provided in the atolls will also operate under this institution, and with the Thalassemia Center moving to Orange Hiyaa in Hulhumale', the Male' Hospitals Group hospital in Hulhumale' will play a major role in its operation.
The President said that since he visited the Thalassemia Center at the beginning of his term to assess its condition, much work has been done and significant progress has been made. He said that the Thalassemia Center in Male' is set to be moved to the Orange Hiyaa building in Hulhumale'.
The President said that in addition to more space in the Orange Hiyaa building, resources will also increase in the future, and all necessary permissions have been given to the Finance Ministry to arrange the budget for increasing resources. He also said that work is underway to recruit the needed staff for this center.
In line with the promise to arrange bone marrow transplants at government expense, the President said that service is being provided to 14 children, and more children will have this opportunity in the future. He also noted that work has begun to establish a full-fledged hospital specializing in thalassemia in Hulhumale'. He said that agreements with investors for this project are being finalized, and preparations are underway to begin practical work. The President said that providing bone marrow services will be a condition of this hospital project, and more details will be revealed as things progress. He also emphasized that the government is working with great attention to bring a permanent good solution for thalassemia children.
