Health Minister Abdullah Nazim has said that discussions are ongoing to arrange for doctors to consult patients in the evening at IGMH, the main government hospital, to reduce queues for doctor consultations.

Speaking on a program on Dhivehi Rajjeyge Adu yesterday, Nazim said that expanding IGMH services is something the government is giving high priority to. However, he said that not having enough doctors and resources to match the pattern of illnesses is a reason for long queues.

Nazim said that queue issues have been identified in four or five departments of IGMH, and consultations have been held with senior doctors at IGMH regarding what can be done to solve this problem.

"As one of the efforts to solve this, we are now discussing how to run IGMH's OPD in the evening hours. We are carrying out these discussions with relevant parties. It's something that can be done by giving additional incentives or salary allowances. When these discussions are concluded, additional ways will be found," Nazim said.

The Minister said that since this government came to power, arrangements have been made for specialist consultations in the morning and evening at atoll hospitals. Therefore, he said a similar solution could be brought to IGMH as well.
