The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent the case of MTCC's former CEO Hassan Shah and other former executives to the Prosecutor General's Office for prosecution in the matter of providing undue advantage to the company awarded the housing project.

ACC said in a statement today that in the process of finding a party to build two 15-storey towers in Hulhumalé Phase 2 to provide housing for MTCC employees, points were given to a foreign company contrary to the evaluation criteria, and the project was awarded to that company. Despite the company breaching the agreement in ways that should have led to termination, advance payments and progressive payments were released instead of terminating the agreement. They also tried to assign certain works that should have been done under the agreement as separate works, and despite the contracted company not working according to the agreement, the agreement was not terminated, causing significant financial losses to MTCC.

ACC said that in the investigation of this case, they have instructed MTCC to calculate and recover the MVR 39.2 million financial loss as well as other additional financial losses incurred.

ACC said they have proposed charges of misuse of official authority for gain and acting against the state's benefit. They also said charges of attempting to commit an offense under Article 80 of the Constitution are included against Shifau.

Those charged:-

  • Hassan Shah of Bagichage, S. Maradhoo Feydhoo, then CEO of MTCC
