A salt production factory has been opened in H.A. Dhidhdhoo, and the work of exporting to Japan has begun.

The President of Dhidhdhoo Council, Abdullah Rasheed, told "One" today that a Japanese company was interested in producing salt in the Maldives, and land has been allocated to that company for this work, and the factory was opened yesterday.

"Since they were interested, the council has leased them land. The council will receive rent from that land. And it is believed that jobs will be created on the island. Before opening the factory, salt was sent to Japan for testing. And they found that the quality of Maldivian salt is better than the salt available in Japan," he said.

Abdullah Rasheed said that since 99 percent of the Maldives is sea, and the Japanese company also assured that salt could be produced in the Maldives, discussions have been held on this matter. He also said that the company wants to increase the capacity of salt production.

Abdullah Rasheed said that a large percentage of the salt produced by the factory has been decided to be exported to Japan, and in addition, it has been arranged to send some to resorts in the Maldives.
