Supreme Court Justices Mahaz Ali Zahir and Dr. Azmiralda Zahir have been summoned to appear before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) tomorrow.
An official from JSC has confirmed this to "One".
JSC is investigating two cases involving Azmiralda and Mahaz. One case is the allegation that Azmiralda influenced an arrest warrant for her husband. The other case involves Mahaz and Azmiralda being present when former Supreme Court Justice Husnu Al Suood allegedly spoke in "inappropriate language" to former High Court Assistant Registrar Hussain Mohamed Haneef when he was summoned to the Supreme Court.
The JSC official said that the summons were sent to the two justices in connection with the investigation into the case where Mahaz and Azmiralda were present when Suood allegedly spoke in "inappropriate language" to Haneef.
The two justices have been previously summoned by JSC for the investigation of this case. They were initially summoned to appear on the ninth of this month. However, only justice Mahaz appeared that day. JSC then instructed justice Azmiralda to appear on the 10th of this month. Both judges have denied the allegations made against them by JSC.
JSC had suspended Supreme Court Justices Husnu Al Suood, Mahaz, and Azmiralda on the 26th of last month. Suood has since resigned from his position while under suspension.
In a press release issued that day, JSC stated that the three judges were suspended because the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was investigating a case related to them. Later, JSC revealed that they were also investigating a case related to the three judges.
JSC has also taken statements from two Criminal Court judges, Judge Ibrahim Zihuni and Judge Safath, earlier this month. These two judges have also been summoned to ACC and given statements regarding the case. A statement from another judge has also been taken by both commissions.
