=STELCO has said that electricity usage decreased on the first day of Ramadan.

In a post on X today, STELCO said that electricity usage decreased on the first of Ramadan due to it being a rainy day and because schools and offices were closed that day.

"While 78 megawatts were used at peak on Saturday, before Ramadan, the average electricity usage during peak hours was above 100 megawatts," STELCO said.

Ramadan is usually a month when electricity bills increase.

Therefore, the government has decided to give a 10 percent discount on Ramadan electricity bills. The decision to give a 10 percent discount on electricity bills was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his trip to AA. Mathiveri on December 9 last year.

At a press conference held by STELCO on February 26, the company's General Manager of Customer Service and Billing, Mohamed Saleem, said that the February bill was given on the 20th, but customers would receive another bill that month. He said this would be a bill for the period from the 20th to the 27th.

He said this bill is being made separately to make a special bill for Ramadan, but the payment deadline for the second February bill will be longer than other bills.

"There will be another bill this month. People might say two bills are coming. We will give extra time to pay the bill we give later. It can be paid without being a burden when next month's salary is received," Saleem said.

Saleem said that the Ramadan bill discount will be the difference between the average bill of the previous nine months and the Ramadan bill. He also said that a ten percent discount will be given on each bill.

"By doing this, some customers' bills will be very low," Saleem' bills will be very low," Saleem said.
