The list of people who received flats under the "Gedhoruverin" scheme carried out by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government has been made public.

The Housing Ministry has just gazetted the list.

At a press conference held at the President's Office today, Minister Muttalib said that when this government verified the applications of the 4,939 people on the list determined by the previous government to receive flats, 1,820 people qualified. This includes 1,423 people eligible for three-bedroom flats and 397 for two-bedroom flats.

The Minister said that 2,695 applications were determined not to meet the criteria, while 424 applications were removed from the list due to changes in points.

"With these changes, we will publish the flat list at 3:00 PM today," the Minister said.

The Minister said that many did not qualify because they submitted documents other than those required. He said that many had submitted a large number of documents from councils stating they did not live on the islands.

The Minister said that those who did not receive flats would have a one-month period to submit complaints through a portal.

The Minister further said that no flat allocated to anyone on the list announced by the previous government has yet been reassigned to anyone else.

The "Gedhoruverin" scheme, which began on June 26, 2022, to distribute flats in the Male' area, was a project initiated during the presidency of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Although a permanent list of flat recipients under this project was released on November 15, 2023, during his presidency, the flats were not handed over to the listed individuals by the end of his term due to complaints filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) by members of the public alleging corruption in the compilation of the list.

Subsequently, the matter was also investigated during the current presidency of Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Dr. Ali Haidar, who was then the Housing Minister, stated that a permanent list of flat recipients would be released and an opportunity would be provided to submit complaints.

At that time, Haidar said the list would be published in the first week of November last year. However, the list was not published by the end of the week. Later, in a press release issued by the Housing Ministry on November 16, it was stated that based on the advice of the President, a Housing Advisory Committee and a Housing Consultative Committee were formed to review the matters reported by the ACC in connection with the complaint submitted to the commission, and that all application forms submitted under the scheme were being reviewed based on the advice of these committees.

However, the release of the list of flat recipients under the "Gedhoruverin" scheme was indefinitely postponed due to the need for more time. The President announced that the flat list would be published before Ramadan during an interview he gave to the media in Dhaandhoo during his trip to Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu Atolls earlier this year.
