The national airline of the Maldives, Maldivian, has opened an office in China's capital, Beijing.
Maldivian stated yesterday that this is an important step taken to further expand and strengthen the airline's services at an international level. This marks the first time Maldivian has opened an office in Beijing.
At a special ceremony held in Beijing, the office was inaugurated by the Chairman of Island Aviation Services Limited—which operates Maldivian—Ahmed Shafiu, Managing Director Ibrahim Ilyas, Deputy Managing Director Ali Saleem, and the Maldivian Ambassador to China, Dr. Fazeel Najeeb.
Maldivian stated that with the opening of this office, the airline's activities in the Chinese market will be strengthened, and its relations with business partners and customers in that country will be further enhanced.
In addition, the office will serve as a major impetus for further strengthening air transport and trade relations between the two countries, providing convenient services to traveling passengers, and increasing tourist arrival numbers.
Maldivian currently operates flights to three Chinese cities using its Airbus A330-200 aircraft: Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu.
China is the leading source market for tourist arrivals to the Maldives. This year as well, 327,531 tourists have visited the Maldives from that country.
