Oil ship crashed on Kaashidhoo harbor channel still not rescued

Authorities have said that the oil ship “Maatholhi” Barge owned by Fuel Supplies Maldives that crashed on the harbor channel of Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo is not rescued.

MNDF today said that the efforts to save the barge so far have been unsuccessful. MNDF said that the owner of the vessel and the MNDF Male’ Area’s Coastguard Squadron are observing the tide and working together to rescue the vessel.

The oil on board the vessel is being removed by the owner with the help of another vessel according to MNDF and the vessel still have a 100,000 liter of oil on board.

The incident involving the vessel was reported to the MNDF on 29 May 2019 around 6:45 p.m. The vessel contained 180,000 liters of diesel and 27,000 liters of petrol at the time of the incident with six Maldivians on board. No one was injured during the incident.
