The People's Majlis session scheduled for today has been postponed to next Monday.

Ahmed Maan Asad, the Media Officer of the Majlis, told "One" today that no reason was given for postponing the session to Monday. He added that although today's session was postponed, committee work will continue.

When concluding yesterday's session, Majlis Speaker Abdulla Abdul Raheem had stated that a session would be held today.

While today's session has been postponed, a proposal has been made for the Majlis to go on recess during the upcoming Ramadan month. PNC member Abdullah Rifau (Bochey), MP for Maafannu South constituency, proposed amending the Majlis regulations to make Ramadan a recess month.

Rifau's amendment was sent to the General Committee for review, and PNC members voted to approve the change in regulations last Thursday. However, opposition MDP members in the committee opposed this move.

Rifau proposed amending Article 24 of the Majlis regulations. The current article states that the first session runs from February 1 to May 15, the second from June 1 to August 15, and the third from October 1 to the end of November, followed by the year-end recess.

Rifau's amendment proposes changing the first session to run from January 1 to the end of March, the second from April 1 to the end of July, and the third from September 1 to the end of November, followed by the recess.

However, Majority Leader and PNC's PG Leader Ibrahim Falah later stated that they do not want the entire Ramadan month to be a recess period.

Falah explained that the decision to amend the regulations and go on recess was made because the government closes for the last 10 days of Ramadan, which reduces the working time for the Majlis during the month.
