Parliament's Committee has approved an extension of the debate time for the no-confidence motion against Home Minister Ali Ihsan, allowing him one hour to respond.

Parliamentary rules normally limit a no-confidence debate against a minister to two hours, with the minister receiving 30 minutes to respond. However, committee members argued that due to the number of allegations in the motion, Ihsan needed more time to address the concerns publicly.

Hulhudhoo MP Abdul Sattar proposed extending the minister’s response time to one hour while reducing the general debate to 30 minutes. Although opposition MP Amin Faisal raised concerns about reducing the debate time for parliament members, the proposal was supported by Alifushi MP Abdul Latheef Abdul Rahman and approved by the committee.

The decision allows Ihsan additional time to present his case while maintaining the overall structure of the no-confidence debate.
