Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced a special provision for its customers travelling for Umrah, increasing the debit card limit by USD 1,500 during the first six days of the Holy Month of Ramadan and Shawwal.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu informed BML and the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) on February 10 regarding the additional limit for Umrah travellers. According to a press release from the bank, this limit can only be used in Saudi Arabia and will be granted for one debit card per customer.
To streamline the process for Umrah pilgrims, BML has coordinated with Umrah groups to ensure smooth transactions. The bank has also provided a separate procedure for individual travellers who are not part of an Umrah group. These individuals must submit their passport and ticket copies via the bank’s mobile app at least five days before departure, excluding bank holidays.
In addition to the USD 1,500 limit, debit cards will retain their existing USD 250 limit. Furthermore, the bank will sell USD 500 to all Umrah travellers, providing additional financial support during their pilgrimage.
