The General Committee of Parliament has approved an amendment to the House rules, allowing the current parliamentary session to end early ahead of the upcoming fasting month.
The amendment, proposed by PNC MP Abdulla Rifau under Article 24 of the Parliament Rules, aims to adjust the parliamentary schedule. Currently, the first session runs from 1 February to 15 May, the second from 1 June to 15 August, and the third from 1 October to November, after which Parliament goes on recess.
Under the new proposal, the first session will now run from 1 January to the end of February, while the second session will be from 1 April to July.
However, the amendment faced opposition from some committee members. Despite this, the proposal was approved, and the changes will take effect accordingly.
