The High Court has ruled that the 10-year jail term awarded to a man for touching a minor inappropriately should not be commuted.

The case was filed against a man named Abdul Salam Moosa, who had allegedly touched the genitals of a child with malicious intent.

Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate's Court sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Abdul Salam filed an appeal in the High Court.

In his appeals, he said that the charge was in a hurry against an incomplete investigation in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code, and that it was a judgment that was contrary to the law of the judges by presenting as evidence what was not in force.

He had approached the high court seeking quashing of the magistrate's order.

However, considering the facts raised in the case, the High Court yesterday ruled that there was no reason to modify the Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate court's decision to sentence him to 10 years in prison.
