President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to facilitate long-term land leases for areas allocated by local councils. Speaking to residents of Raa Atoll, he explained that the current short-term lease policies create challenges for implementing large-scale projects, particularly in sectors like odidhonibar cultivation.

To address this, the government will enable councils to offer leases of up to 20 years, providing stability and encouraging investment in key industries. The plan aims to support local businesses and ensure smoother execution of development projects.

The President also highlighted financial difficulties faced by those in the odidhonibar sector, such as limited access to funding. To tackle this, the government will ease access to loans, including interest-free options, helping industry workers and entrepreneurs expand their operations.

Additionally, a specialised training and development centre will be established in Innamaadhoo to promote odidhonibar cultivation and train Maldivian youth, further boosting the sector and its contribution to the economy.

These initiatives are designed to drive long-term growth and create more opportunities for local communities across the Maldives.
