President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that work is underway to complete the national project "Cool School" to air-condition all government schools before September this year.

During his current trip to R. Atoll, the President visited R. Hulhudhuffaaru today and met with the island's residents. He said that a major project to cool all schools in the Maldives has now begun, with the primary focus on air-conditioning classrooms.

"This has now started, and the necessary arrangements have been made, bringing it to a very good stage. So, God willing, in the remaining days of this year, we will air-condition and cool all classrooms in all schools on this island and all islands of the Maldives using renewable energy," the President said.

The President said that efforts are being made to complete this project as soon as possible, aiming to finish it before September. He also mentioned that it would take about eight months to complete the installation of air conditioning in all schools.

The national "Cool School" project to air-condition all government schools was launched on June 2 last year.

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu had previously stated that 9,400 air conditioners would be needed to air-condition all schools in the Maldives. He also said that the capital cost for air-conditioning schools would be approximately MVR 600 million.

According to the Minister, the annual maintenance cost for the air conditioners would be MVR 3.5 million. He also said that repair costs would amount to MVR 10 million annually. The total annual cost was estimated to be MVR 178.5 million.

The Minister had also stated that the cost of equipment for air-conditioning all classrooms, including re-cabling schools, four-wire three-phase wiring, D-boards, switches, sockets, casing, and purchasing and installing air conditioners, would amount to at least MVR 130 million.
