MIFCO has begun efforts to address ongoing issues with ice plants on three islands in the Maldives. According to a statement from MIFCO, one unit of the Hulhumeedhoo ice plant at the Addu Fisheries Complex (AFC) is malfunctioning, while the second unit is facing a gas leak.

MIFCO has noted that fewer boats have been arriving due to these issues, but they are working to fix both problems permanently. An engineer from Kooddoo will be deployed to repair the condenser pump at the Gadhdhoo ice plant.

Additionally, the Thinadhoo ice plant has experienced a condenser problem, and engineers are currently working to resolve it. MIFCO is also working on improving cranes one, three, and six in Kooddoo and is addressing issues with the second crane at Thinadhoo. The company aims to resolve these issues within the month.

Efforts are being made to ensure that fishermen across the country have access to ice, in line with President Mohamed Muizzu’s policy.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu previously highlighted that the construction of ice plants in some islands, funded by the Saudi Fund, has faced delays due to administrative issues. He confirmed that the necessary funds for the projects have already been allocated.
