Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has announced that it has completed 65 percent of the ongoing water supply project linking Male' with Hulhumale'. The project, which aims to improve water distribution between the two areas, is progressing steadily, with key milestones reached in recent weeks.

MWSC reported that the cleaning and disinfection of the 20-inch diameter, 5-kilometer-long pipeline between Male' and Hulhumale' has begun. The company is also testing the pressure within the pipeline to ensure its readiness for operation.

In addition to the pipeline work, the foundation of the transfer pump stations in both Male' and Hulhumale' has been completed. Construction of the building structures for these stations has now started. Currently, 25 percent of the pump station work in Male' and 60 percent of the pump station work in Hulhumale' has been finished. MWSC aims to complete the pump station constructions by March 2025, with the system expected to be fully operational in the second half of the year once the pumps are installed.

The project will enable the transfer of 800 tons of water per hour between Male' and Hulhumale', significantly improving the water supply quality for the Male' area.

The initiative, which began in 2016, faced delays due to various challenges, but important work resumed in 2024. MWSC emphasized its commitment to improving water supply and sanitation services, focusing on providing safe drinking water and sustainable sanitation solutions.
