Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef has ordered the police to cancel the immunity agreements made with former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor in the MMPRC corruption case and to expedite the investigation of all suspects.

The PG's office said today that they have decided to cancel the immunity agreements of four individuals, including former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb. Besides Adeeb, the others are Ahmed Ishfah Ali of M. Land of Garden, Mohamed Allam Latheef of M. Cessna, and Mohamed Hussain of G. Oivaali.

In addition, the agreement with Abdullah Ziyath was terminated in August 2022, according to the PG's office.

These agreements were made during the presidency of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. They were made with the PG's office to facilitate the investigation of the MMPRC corruption case and to assist in recovering the funds lost to the state.

However, the PG's office said today that the decision to cancel these agreements was made because investigative agencies informed the PG that these individuals were not providing adequate cooperation for the investigation and the recovery of lost state funds.

With the termination of these agreements, the PG's office has instructed the Maldives Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Commission to proceed with the investigations of cases against these individuals that were halted due to these agreements, and to submit them to the PG's office as soon as possible.
