In an operation conducted in the Male' area to collect information on expatriates, data from more than 1,400 expatriates was gathered today.
Home Minister Ali Ihsan said in a post on X today that when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu addressed the nation on November 17 last year, he announced that biometric data of 10,000 expatriates had been collected through this operation. He added that in the two months since then, information from more than 15,000 additional expatriates has been collected.
"As of today, biometric data of 25,483 expatriates has been collected in the entire operation," the Minister said.
The Minister stated that today's work resulted in the collection of biometric data from 1,455 expatriate workers.
The Minister said that the work being done under a three-year plan to find a permanent solution to the issue of illegal expatriates in the Maldives will be successfully completed by April 2027.
"Operation Kurangi" was conducted from 8 AM to 6 PM today. 75 officials from the Home Ministry participated in this operation. Today's operation was specifically focused on collecting information from expatriates working in the education sector and those at the Gulhifalhu site where the Thilamale' Bridge work is ongoing.
