Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has filed a no-confidence motion against Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan, signed by 12 members.
MDP’s motion claims the Department of National Registration (DNR), under the Homeland Ministry, was misused to add members to the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC). They also allege corruption in outsourcing expatriate management to a Malaysian company, Bestinet.
MDP has accused Minister Ihsan of interfering with police investigations and urged authorities to investigate the misuse of personal data and fraudulent party registrations. They have asked the Election Commission (EC) to halt and review forms submitted by the PNC.
The EC has acknowledged over 300 unverified membership applications and announced new rules for political party registrations. From Debruary 15, all registrations will require verification through the e-Faas system.
