President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has outlined plans to digitise all government services in the Maldives, aiming to modernise public administration during his current term.
Speaking to PSM at the conclusion of an official visit to Estonia, he expressed his commitment to transforming public services through technology, including digitising existing paper archives.
The President revealed that the government intends to upgrade services in key areas such as education, healthcare, and public administration over the next three years. He described the visit to Estonia as an opportunity to learn from one of the world's most digitally advanced nations and explore ways to implement similar advancements in the Maldives.
President Dr Muizzu also highlighted the significance of creating a digital economy, considering it a vital step towards achieving the Maldives’ goal of becoming a developed country by 2040. He acknowledged the importance of adapting to global technological advancements, pointing to the transformative role artificial intelligence (AI) could play in national development. The government has reportedly developed a master plan for AI and is ready to take necessary actions to harness its potential.
This digital transformation initiative is expected to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility across public services, benefiting citizens and aligning the Maldives with global technological trends. The experience and insights gained from Estonia are anticipated to guide the country in establishing a robust digital infrastructure.
