The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group has decided to submit a motion to the People's Majlis to dismiss Home Minister Ali Ihsaan over the issue of invalid forms submitted during the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) "Membership Drive" campaign to increase party members.

MDP member for Galolhu South constituency, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, told 'One' today that the party's PG has passed a resolution to submit a no-confidence motion against Ihsaan to the parliament. He said this was passed unanimously by the PG.

According to parliamentary rules, signatures of 10 members are required to submit a no-confidence motion against a minister. Although the MDP PG has 12 members, MDP does not have enough parliament members to dismiss a minister.

While PNC has admitted that some invalid forms were submitted, both the Elections Commission (EC) and the police are currently investigating the matter.

According to Article 310 of the Maldives Penal Code, it is a crime to create or copy a document to falsely show that it was made by a particular person or to falsely present it as an authentic document. This is a fourth-degree felony. The basic punishment for this offense is imprisonment for one year, seven months, and six days.
