President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared Thursday, March 6, as a public holiday for his upcoming presidential address to the Parliament.

The statement was signed by Chief of Staff at the President's Office, Abdulla Fayyaz, confirming the public holiday. President Muizzu will deliver his address during the first sitting of the first session of the year.

According to Article 84 of the Constitution, every year during the first sitting of the first session of Parliament, the President must provide a statement outlining the current situation in the country and the policies needed to improve it.

After the presidential address, the Speaker will conclude the session. Following the address, the president must prepare and deliver a response in a parliament session where the highest number of members (excluding the party to which the president belongs) are present. This response must be submitted within 14 days of the presidential address.
