A request has been submitted by MP Meekail Naseem, to question Home Minister Ali Ihusaan regarding the issue of invalid forms submitted during the "Membership Drive" campaign conducted by the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) to increase its membership.
In a notice submitted for questioning ministers, MP Meekail Naseem of Galolhu South constituency stated that it has been revealed that the database of the Department of National Registration, operating under the Home Ministry, was used to falsify people's identities and fill out PNC membership forms.
Therefore, MP Meekail has requested to inquire about what measures are being taken to further protect people's personal information and whether any action has been taken against senior Home Ministry officials who signed as witnesses on invalid forms.
While PNC has admitted to the submission of invalid forms, both the Elections Commission (EC) and the police are investigating the matter.
According to Article 310 of the Maldives Penal Code, it is a crime to create or copy a document to falsely show that it was made by a particular person or to falsely present it as an authentic document. This is a fourth-degree felony. The basic punishment for this offense is imprisonment for one year, seven months, and six days.
