Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has updated the rules for police promotions, demotions, and honours. The new guidelines, now published in the Gazette, set clear criteria for career advancements within the police force.
To be promoted to constable, recruits must meet the requirements stated in the 'Police Recruitment Rules.' For promotion to Chief Inspector, officers must either serve as the head of a city police station or a regional crime cell for two years, work three years at a station, or spend three years in a training centre outside Malé in a designated role.
Promotion to Assistant Commissioner requires two years in a regional leadership position, such as Region Commander, and three years of operational policing experience outside the atolls.
Administrative experience will count toward promotion eligibility, but any time spent under disciplinary action will not. The new rules also stress the importance of transparency in promotion timelines and maintaining high performance standards.
These changes aim to make the promotion process fairer and more transparent, ensuring professionalism and efficiency in the police force.
