The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the central bank, has announced that the reprinted MVR 100 notes of the 'Ran Dhiha Faheh' (golden five decades) currency series will enter into circulation next Sunday.
The MMA stated today that these notes were brought on December 15, 2024, due to low stock of the currency.
The MMA said that the notes will include the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol, and the notes are signed by the former Governor, Ali Hashim. The date on these notes is July 7, 2024, and 1 Muharram 1446.
According to the MMA, these new notes will circulate alongside the current MVR 100 notes.
Printing additional currency when stocks are low is a common practice. Previously, additional MVR 50, 5, 10, 20, and 100 notes have been printed and brought to the Maldives. In addition to notes, the MMA has also printed and imported additional coins.
In December 2022, notes bearing the Maldivian Rufiyaa symbol were first introduced into circulation. The MVR 50 notes were the first to feature this symbol due to low stock at that time. These notes were also signed by the then Governor Ali Hashim.
The Ran Dhiha Faheh series of MVR 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 was first released in January 2016 to commemorate 50 years of independence in the Maldives. It is the first Maldivian currency series to be printed on polymer paper, featuring a new design and special security features.
