Maldives passport has retained its position as South Asia's most powerful travel document for another consecutive year, holding the 53rd spot globally.
With access to 94 visa-free destinations, this achievement, announced by Maldives Immigration, underscores the country’s strong standing in regional mobility and growing diplomatic influence worldwide.
In the latest Henley Passport Index, the Maldives maintained its 53rd position, the same as its ranking in 2024, where it also provided access to 94 destinations. This marks an improvement from 61st place in 2023, when the Maldives offered visa-free access to 89 countries, showing steady progress in global mobility.
Within South Asia, the Maldives outperforms its regional counterparts. India ranks 85th globally, offering access to 57 destinations, while Bhutan holds the 90th spot with 52. Bangladesh is 100th with access to 40 countries, and Nepal, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are ranked 101st, 103rd, and 106th, respectively.
On the global stage, Singapore boasts the most powerful passport, granting visa-free access to 195 countries. The Maldives' ability to retain its position highlights the success of its diplomatic efforts and bilateral agreements, further enhancing global mobility for its citizens and solidifying its international presence.
