Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into allegations of non-payment of salaries to employees of South Catering, a prominent catering service provider in the country.
The investigation follows a protest staged by South Catering employees earlier today, who claimed they had not been paid for six months. The protest drew attention to the financial difficulties faced by the staff, many of whom rely solely on their salaries for their livelihood.
In a statement, the police confirmed that the matter had been brought to their attention. Police said the issue of non-payment of salaries to South Catering employees has come to their notice.
South Catering operates several popular restaurants in the capital city and is one of the largest catering service providers in the Maldives. The allegations have raised concerns about the treatment of employees within the company and the broader hospitality industry.
