President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Agro National Corporation (AgroNat), established by the previous government for farmers to sell their produce, was transferred under the Maldives Industrial Free Zone (MIDFZ) to expand its services.

The Cabinet decided to incorporate AgroNat's operations as part of MIDIFZ in September last year.

Speaking at a meeting with residents of Ga. Nilandhoo during his trip to Huvadhoo Atoll this evening, the President said that claims about AgroNat being dissolved are false.

"We changed AgroNat to become a subsidiary company of Maldives Industrial Free Zone (MIDFZ). That's the change we made," the President said.

The President stated that expanding agriculture is an important goal of this government. He added that transferring AgroNat under MIDFZ will further strengthen the company's services.

Noting that this island is an agricultural island, the President said that he will arrange for farmers to easily market their produce for Ramadan. He also said that he will work to find solutions to the concerns of farmers.

AgroNet was established in 2020 during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration to market products grown by Maldivian farmers and ensure food security in the country. AgroNat employs 182 staff. As such, AgroNat staff are active in some agricultural islands. The company's operations have now been suspended.
