During the current monsoon affecting the Maldives, 30,400 tons of water have been drained from the flooded streets of Male'.
MNDF Media reported today that from 11:37 yesterday to 8:30 today, 30,406 tons of water have been drained from Male'. Additionally, the MNDF has placed 1,550 sandbags at 210 houses.
MNDF stated last night that they had set up pumps in six areas of Male' to drain water. This included five pumps in the West Park area, five pumps in the IGMH area, three pumps in the area near Salman Mosque, and one pump each in the areas of Boduvaa, Maafannu Ferry Terminal, and Voice of Maldives.
By 8:30 PM last night, 9,917 tons of water had been drained from all of Male'.
MNDF Male' Area Command soldiers are actively assisting homes experiencing water intrusion due to heavy rainfall. This includes placing sandbags in houses, according to the MNDF.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) posted on X yesterday that they received 400 calls for assistance due to heavy rain and flooding. Most calls were for sandbags and other flood-related issues.
After conducting a rapid assessment, NDMA said they are providing assistance to 35 of the most affected households. They are also working on relocating people from these houses who need to be moved to other locations.
Due to the heavy rain, alerts have been issued for a large part of the Maldives. Most recently, a white alert was issued for islands from Lh. Atoll to L. Atoll.
