Last October, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu also made an official visit to India. On that trip, which was at the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu, President Muizzu met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials of that country.
During the President's visit to India, agreements were signed between the Maldivian government and the Indian government. This included a currency swap agreement between the Maldives and India. The agreement is a currency swap of USD 400 million and INR 30 billion between the central bank, MMA, and the Reserve Bank of India.
Additionally, during that trip, India's RuPay card was introduced to the Maldives. The new runway developed with Indian assistance at Hanimaadhoo Airport in Ha. Atoll was also inaugurated, and 700 housing units built with Indian aid in the second phase of Hulhumale were handed over to the Maldivian government.
The President also extended an invitation to Modi to visit the Maldives during that trip. Modi accepted the invitation. Modi's visit is scheduled to take place this year. However, a specific date for Modi's visit has not yet been announced.
