Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has highlighted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu prioritises addressing the impact of corruption rather than targeting individuals involved.

Speaking on state media, Abdul Raheem noted that corruption has worsened because cases are often handled based on who committed the act rather than the damage caused.

He explained that President Dr Muizzu’s approach focuses on recovering state losses, ensuring actions comply with the law, and identifying the extent of financial damage. The decision to prosecute those guilty of corruption is left to the Prosecutor General, with no interference from the government.

Abdul Raheem also pointed out that legal action has been taken against Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, a former Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation, as part of the government’s efforts to address corruption.
