The passports of Moosa Alimanik (Mookey), the former Managing Director of Road Development Corporation (RDC), and Yasir Hassan, the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of RDC, have been confiscated in connection with the investigation of alleged corruption cases within the company during the presidency of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Last Thursday night, police searched Mookey's residence and seized electronic equipment for the investigation related to the RDC case. They also searched two locations associated with Yasir and seized electronic equipment.
In a message sent to the media tonight, the police stated that they have issued an order prohibiting the former MD of RDC, Mookey, and CFO Yasir from leaving the country in connection with an ongoing investigation, and this information has been communicated to the concerned individuals.
The corruption case of RDC was submitted to the police in September 2022. This case involves the alleged transfer of MVR 14 million from RDC's account to the accounts of three individuals.
According to previous police statements, the corruption within RDC involves 15 employees in addition to those three staff members. They stated that one account received MVR 11 million in multiple transactions, while two other individuals' accounts each received MVR 1 million.
The police have stated that the money involved in this case was circulated from 2018 until September 2022. They also mentioned that 216 transactions were conducted to circulate this money for personal use.
Fayyaz Ismail, the Economic Minister in Solih's government and the Chairperson of MDP, was also summoned to the police office in March of this year regarding a case related to RDC funds.
