The rainy season has caused significant damage to homes and infrastructure, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). At least 47 houses were reported damaged, with three islands across two atolls particularly affected—Henbadhoo, Kendhikulhudhoo in Noonu Atoll, and Kurendhoo in Lhaviyani Atoll.

Henbadhoo witnessed the most extensive damage, with at least 80 homes experiencing flooding. While none of the households required evacuation, the situation led to considerable distress. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Northern Area Command spearheaded rescue operations, and the Maldives Red Crescent provided essential support, including rapid assessments and psychological first aid.

The NDMA has so far received damage assessment forms for 27 houses in Henbadhoo, with ongoing verification and processing of claims. The reported damage includes structural issues and loss of essential household materials.

In response to the crisis, 12 households identified as needing immediate assistance received temporary housing and basic provisions. These 32 individuals were provided shelter for a day until their living conditions stabilised.

The NDMA also noted that 304 sandbags placed in 49 locations to mitigate flooding were affected, with impacts extending to warehouses and shops.

Collaborating with the Maldives Red Crescent, the NDMA has completed assessments for 30 houses affected by flooding. Damage ranged from structural issues, such as ceilings, to the destruction of personal belongings. Efforts are ongoing to support affected families and restore normalcy.
