Mohamed Mauroof Jameel has been appointed as the Managing Director and board member of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) announced today on X.
Mauroof brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as Director General of the Hulhumalé Development Unit during President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's administration. Since the establishment of HDC, he has held several key positions, including a brief stint as CEO.
He has also contributed to the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) and served as the Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure during President Gayoom's final term. Currently, Mauroof is actively involved in architectural heritage projects.
His appointment follows the resignation of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed amid allegations of irregularities in land allocation under the Binveriya Scheme. Fazul’s passport, along with those of 20 others, including his brother, has been impounded as part of an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Fazul, who was under suspension at the time of his resignation, is accused of violating land allocation norms and facilitating questionable transactions.
The ACC investigation has also led to the suspension of all HDC board members except Chairman Ahmed Nasif, along with senior management staff. Additionally, employees from the Housing Ministry and Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) have faced suspensions in connection with the case.
