Chief Justice Ahmed Mu'uthasim Adnan has been admitted to a private hospital in Malé after his health reportedly deteriorated during a visit to Fulhadhoo.
One has come to know that the Chief Justice experienced a health setback after sustaining an injury while in Fulhadhoo. He was airlifted to Malé by helicopter last night for further medical treatment. Neither the Supreme Court, the Department of Judicial Administration, nor the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) have released an official statement regarding his condition.
Rumours are circulating that Chief Justice Adnan might consider retirement due to his declining health.
Appointed to the Supreme Court bench in 2010, Justice Mu'uthasim served until 2014, when he was removed from his position. However, in 2019, then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih proposed his name for the position of Chief Justice, and he was sworn into office on 8 December 2019.
Before his tenure in the judiciary, Mu'uthasim held prominent roles, including serving as director of the legal section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 2001. He was also the Dean of the Faculty of Shariah and Law at the Maldives College of Higher Education from 2001 to 2005, and later a partner at Clipper & Galleon Law Associates from 2005 to 2010.
The judicial community and the public await further updates on the Chief Justice’s health and potential decisions regarding his tenure.
