Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has stated that it was HDC who brought to the Housing Ministry's attention the issue of two parties applying for boundary wall permits for the same plot allocated under the Binveriyaa scheme.
At a press conference held tonight at HDC's main building, following the emergence of allegations about land allocation outside the Binveriyaa scheme run by the previous government for Male' residents, Fazul said that HDC is neither the issuer nor was the issuer of the Binveriyaa scheme registry. He also stated that the company does not handle the agreements or handover of lands under this scheme.
Fazul explained that when a person who has been allocated land wants to build a boundary wall, they must apply through HDC's portal. Before granting permission, the Housing Ministry verifies if the applicant is the registered owner of the land.
However, the issue that came to light was a case where two individuals applied for permission to build a boundary wall for the same plot. Fazul said they sent the matter to the Housing Ministry to determine who holds the registry for that land.
According to a letter circulated on social media, the boundary wall permit was requested by Fazul's brother, Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, and a person from Dhidhdhoo named Abdul Majid Mahir.
"I believe I was the one who informed the Housing Ministry about this. Even if it's my blood brother, or brothers, it's the Housing Ministry that will determine who is entitled to it. That's not my responsibility. HDC has fulfilled its responsibility. HDC's responsibility, my responsibility, has been fully discharged. So, whether I'm here or not won't hinder this matter," Fazul said.
