Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), has stated that HDC will not be involved in land allocation outside the Binveriyaa scheme.
Police entered the HDC building today to investigate a case of land allocation outside the Binveriyaa scheme.
In a letter allegedly sent by HDC to the Housing Ministry regarding this case, it was noted that permission was sought to build boundary walls for two 1,250 square foot plots allocated to two individuals from a single plot. The letter also included details of these two parties.
A response letter from the Housing Ministry to this has also been circulated on social media. In the letter addressed to HDC's Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, State Minister of Housing Ibrahim Nizam stated that according to the scheme's database, these two parties are not among those who applied for land under the scheme.
At a press conference held by HDC tonight regarding this issue, Fazul said that HDC will fully cooperate with the police investigation and assured that HDC has not done anything that would harm anyone who received land under the Binverin scheme.
"HDC does not issue the Binveriyaa scheme registry, nor are we involved in it. There are registries of Binveriyaa plots issued by the previous government. HDC does not prepare the agreements. HDC does not hand over the land. Our involvement begins when an application comes through our portal, seeking permits for construction" he said.
Fazul said that HDC assumes that those who apply for boundary wall permits through their portal are the registered owners, but they have cancelled boundary wall permits for some plots where issues were identified.
"So from that point on, we release the boundary permit. In such cases, we have initiated a verification process. This is generally how we proceed. Binveriyaa plots are not plots that we were ever involved in handing over to the public," he said.
Fazul further stated that the inclusion of a brother in this matter was a coincidence, and that it was HDC who notified the Housing Ministry when the issue was identified, even though it involved his brother. He also said that the rightful owner will be determined by the Ministry.
Police said today that they are conducting a criminal investigation into a case where HDC allegedly allocated land to people who are not eligible under the Binverin scheme.
