Malé City Council Mayor, Adam Azim, has announced that the council's operations will be temporarily relocated to the Thaajuddin School Hall due to space constraints following a fire at the Housing Ministry building.

The fire, which occurred on 12th December, severely damaged the building, leading to the relocation of the Housing Ministry, Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, and the Environment Ministry to Dharubaaruge. The City Council, previously operating from Galolhu School, has faced difficulties resuming its services due to limited space.

Speaking about the temporary relocation, Mayor Azim said, they have verbally received permission to use the Thaajuddin School Hall after the exams conclude tomorrow. However, he noted that it remains challenging to provide full services until all documents are properly sorted and accessible.

The City Council had earlier shifted some services, including the filing of birth and death forms, to the first floor of Hulhumalé’s Ameen Avenue Maple Tower. Deputy Mayor Ahmed Nareesh expressed concerns about the potential loss of critical documents, such as building registrations and birth certificates, in the aftermath of the fire.

Mayor Azim also confirmed that official requests have been made to various government institutions for alternative office spaces to ensure uninterrupted civic services.
