The High Commissioner of the Republic of India to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar, paid a farewell visit to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as his tenure in the Maldives came to an end.

During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu expressed gratitude to the High Commissioner for his contributions to strengthen the partnership between India and Maldives. He reflected on Mahawar's tenure, highlighting it coincided with a crucial period for two countries.

In turn, Mahawar affirmed India's steadfast support for the Maldives' developmental ambitions. He commended President Dr Muizzu's leadership and collaborative spirit, recognising their role in addressing mutual challenges and reinforcing the historic bond between the two nations.

The President and High Commissioner also revisited the outcomes of President Dr Muizzu’s State Visit to India in October. During this visit, the two countries signed the strategic framework A Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership. This agreement charted a new course for collaboration, focusing on economic reforms, social welfare, and enhanced maritime security. Both leaders acknowledged the progress achieved so far, facilitated by India’s commitment to supporting key initiatives in the Maldives.

They expressed optimism about continuing the positive trajectory in bilateral relations. They emphasised the importance of completing ongoing projects in a timely manner and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

President Dr Muizzu extended his best wishes to High Commissioner Mahawar for his future endeavours and expressed his enthusiasm to work closely with the incoming High Commissioner. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to building on the solid foundation of friendship and partnership between the two nations.
