The President's Office has stated that information about political employees is personal information and cannot be provided.

Although the President's Office spokesperson Heena Waleed had stated on the first of last month that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had decided to dismiss 228 employees by October 31 as part of the government's economic reform agenda to reduce state expenditure, details of the dismissed employees were not disclosed.

As the government did not reveal the names of the dismissed political employees and the institutions where they were employed, an individual has requested this information under the Right to Information Act.

In response to this request, the President's Office stated today that the names of political employees are personal information, and disclosing the names of the ministries where they worked could potentially reveal their personal information. Therefore, this information cannot be released under the law.

"The information you requested regarding the titles of the positions of dismissed employees, the detailed number of dismissals, and the amount saved from the state budget due to these dismissals has been stated in the President's post on 'X'," the President's Office replied.

In a post on X on October 15, the President stated that as part of the economic reform agenda and as a cost-cutting measure, he had ordered the dismissal of 228 political appointees from various ministries within 15 days.

The President then said that among the political employees decided to be dismissed were seven state ministers, 43 deputy ministers, 109 senior political directors, and 69 political directors.

The President stated that these dismissals would save the government budget MVR 5.714 million per month.

The President has also decided to reduce the salaries of political positions, members of the People's Majlis, and some employees of companies.

Additionally, the President has decided to forgo 50 percent of his salary."
