The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has requested the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the allegations being directed at the agency regarding the acquisition of a building for its operations.

Some parties have been making accusations of corruption against NSPA CEO Heena Waleed in connection with the announcement made by NSPA to find an office. Some individuals on social media have been alleging that NSPA conducted a transaction worth MVR 34.8 million with a party other than the building's owner to acquire the property.

There are also allegations that the newly launched "MM TV" channel is operating from a space rented using NSPA funds, and that NSPA is paying the rent for the location.

In a letter sent to ACC President Adam Shamil requesting an investigation into these allegations, NSPA CEO Heena Waleed stated that some parties have been spreading false information about NSPA.

Heena said that since NSPA is an agency carrying out work related to social protection of citizens, they request an investigation into the truth behind the statements being made that cast doubt on the integrity of the agency's employees.

"We earnestly request that a complete, independent investigation be conducted as soon as possible and the findings be disclosed to the public. Therefore, we request that the Commission (ACC) conduct a thorough investigation on this matter and share the report with this agency as soon as possible," Heena said.

In a press release issued tonight, NSPA stated that the transactions for acquiring a building for the agency's operations were not conducted with any party other than the Ministry of Finance. Heena said that the transactions with the Ministry of Finance were carried out within regulations.

Several individuals on social media had also alleged that NSPA is hiring employees in its name for other private entities. Denying this, NSPA stated that the recruitment of staff for the agency's operations and assigning their job responsibilities are being carried out within the established procedures.

NSPA also said that they will submit the matter of people spreading false information about the agency to the relevant authorities for investigation.
