Male’ City Council has announced that it will commence the relocation of stray dogs to the newly established pet care facility next week.
In a statement posted on X today, the council revealed its collaboration with various organisations to ensure the smooth transfer of the animals to the dedicated shelter.
Mayor Adam Azim, speaking during a media event, emphasised that the relocation process would take approximately six months. "The goal is to provide a better environment for these animals while addressing concerns from residents about their presence in populated areas," he stated.
The pet care facility is designed to offer comprehensive care for the animals. It includes quarantine areas, a veterinary clinic, a pharmacy, a laboratory, and spacious play zones. The initiative is part of the council’s broader efforts to enhance urban management and animal welfare.
The council also plans to consult the Agriculture and Animal Welfare Ministry on similar programmes in the future, potentially extending such facilities to other animals.
