Police have begun investigating a case where a minor boy allegedly sexually abused a 4-year-old girl on an island in the atolls.

In a message sent to the media tonight, the police said that a case was reported on the 21st of this month alleging that a boy under 18 had sexually abused a 4-year-old girl on an island in the North Central Police division (which includes K, AA, ADh, and Vaavu Atolls).

The police stated that they are investigating the case of child sexual abuse. No further details were provided by the police.

As cases involving minors are considered serious, the police have not disclosed the atoll or island of the child to protect the child's identity.

While the police are investigating this case, they recently arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with a case of sexual abuse of a 10-year-old child on an island in the central Maldives. When he was brought to court to decide on his detention, he was ordered yesterday to be detained for 30 days.
