The Maldivian Parliament has approved the extension of its ongoing session until 15th December.
The proposal for the extension was moved by Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and received the backing of 68 out of 82 members present in the house, while 11 members voted against it.
Speaking at the session, the Speaker highlighted that, as per the rules, the third and final session of the year was initially set to conclude on 30th November. However, the extension was deemed necessary due to the significant amount of work remaining.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu also emphasised the importance of the session, stating that several critical bills have already been introduced and more essential legislation will be submitted in the coming weeks.
This extension aims to ensure that key legislative matters are addressed before the year's end.
