The Housing Ministry has stated that reports of Members of Parliament influencing the allocation of flats under the "Gedhoruverin" scheme are false news, and that the flats will be given to the most deserving individuals.
Recently, some social media and news outlets have reported that the flats are to be allocated based on lists provided by Members of Parliament.
In a press release issued today to refute these reports, the Housing Ministry said that false information is being spread on social media to create a negative image of the Ministry in the public's mind. They also stated that false news is being deliberately spread to create unease among the people by claiming that MPs and some political parties are influencing the re-evaluation process of the scheme.
"We assure all citizens that no one will influence the re-evaluation process related to this scheme. The Ministry's goal is to ensure that the flats under this scheme go to the most deserving individuals," the Ministry's statement said.
The Ministry further stated that this is a very sensitive issue linked to the housing hopes of many citizens, and appealed not to spread false news for political purposes without seeking an official statement from the Ministry.
Although Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar had earlier said that a permanent list of people who received flats under the previous government's "Gedhoruverin" scheme would be released early this month, with an opportunity to submit complaints, the release of the list has been postponed. The Housing Ministry has again delayed the release of the list, stating that more time is needed for the work.
