Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim has expressed concerns about banning Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives. He made the comment during a meeting of the 241 Committee, which is discussing changes to the Maldives Immigration Act to block Israeli citizens from entering Maldives following Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Nazim pointed out that many people with Israeli passports are not Israeli nationals. He mentioned that Muslims, Arabs, and even citizens from countries like the United States and South America may hold Israeli passports. He suggested that instead of a complete ban, the Maldives could focus on stopping military personnel linked to the Israeli government.
He also said it is important to consult with enforcement agencies to see if such rules can be applied in the Maldives. The discussion reflects the Maldives’ response to the genocide in Gaza and its commitment to supporting human rights.
