Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has called on lawmakers to avoid making comments that imply they are simply controlled by the government.

The Speaker's remarks followed a statement by South Galolhu MP Mikail Naseem during a debate on a resolution to ban Israeli passports. Mikail criticised the process, alleging that the government was influencing lawmakers and that the parliament’s agenda was being dictated by the president’s office.

In response, Speaker Abdul Raheem emphasised the importance of maintaining the dignity of the House. "I request you not to speak in a manner that undermines the dignity of the Parliament. Statements suggesting members are government puppets diminish the strength and respect of the members," he said.

The debate continues to spark discussions about parliamentary independence and government influence.
