The current rains in the Maldives have caused serious damage to households in some of the islands in the Maldives.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) told "One" today that Lhaviyani Kurendhoo has been the most affected by the current rainy weather. As such, 104 houses on the island have reported damages.

NDMA said that they are working with the council to identify houses that have become uninhabitable among the damaged ones, and are providing temporary shelter and food assistance to those affected.

Additionally, in Dhaalu Bandidoo, part of a kitchen roof was blown off, causing damage to the kitchen and household appliances. NDMA also stated that since repairing the roof will take time, temporary shelter has been provided to the seven people living in that house. During the same incident, part of the roof of another house on the island was also blown off. NDMA said that repair work for that house is ongoing.

NDMA also reported that the streets of the island were flooded, and there were reports of trees falling in various areas of the island.

The authority said that in Addu City Feydhoo, a house's roof was damaged, causing water to seep into the ceiling, which then collapsed. They also mentioned that repair work on the roof of that house has been carried out in response to the incident.

Due to the rainy weather, the Male' area experienced heavy rainfall yesterday and today, resulting in significant flooding. However, NDMA stated that no houses in Male' have reported any damage.

According to the Maldives Meteorological Service, the current rainy weather affecting the Maldives is due to a low-level circulation that has formed during the transition period between the end of the southwest monsoon and the beginning of the northeast monsoon of the southwest monsoon and the beginning of the northeast monsoon.
